Dark Universe films, inspired by Universal's classic monster movies, will bring the iconic creatures to life in a modern setting.

With a star-studded cast and talented filmmakers at the helm, the Dark Universe is poised to be a major cinematic event.

Universal Studios announced the Dark Universe on Monday, revealing a slate of upcoming films that will feature some of the most iconic monsters in cinematic history. The franchise will kick off with "The Mummy," starring Tom Cruise, on June 9, 2017. Other films in the Dark Universe will include "Bride of Frankenstein," "The Invisible Man," and "Creature from the Black Lagoon." The release dates and casting for these films have yet to be announced.

The Dark Universe is being overseen by Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan, who have a track record of success with other major franchises such as "Star Trek" and "Fast & Furious." The franchise will be distinguished by performances from some of the most talented and popular actors in Hollywood. In addition to Cruise, the Dark Universe will star Javier Bardem, Johnny Depp, and Russell Crowe.
