Spain win Euro 2024 opener against Croatia on penalties
Spain overcame Croatia on penalties in their Euro 2024 opener in Berlin on Saturday.
Joselu scored the winning spot-kick as Spain prevailed 5-4 in the shoot-out after the match had finished goalless after extra-time.
Spain had the better of the chances in the match, but they could not find a way past Croatia goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic in normal time or extra-time.
Livakovic made a number of excellent saves, including a crucial stop from Sergio Busquets in the second half of extra-time.
Spain eventually won the shoot-out thanks to goals from Busquets, Koke, Dani Olmo, Gerard Moreno and Joselu.
Croatia's goals came from Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic, Marcelo Brozovic and Andrej Kramaric.
The win gives Spain a valuable three points in Group B, while Croatia will be disappointed to have lost after a battling performance.
